Rishi Sunak has today been appointed prime minister after meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. The 42-year-old old is the country’s first Asian prime minister.

In his first speech as UK prime minister, Mr. Sunak addressed the public. He said ‘mistakes’ were made, but his job is to ‘fix them’ {clip}.

Meanwhile, Liz Truss gave her farewell speech as prime minister in front of No.10. Downing Street, shortly before Mr. Sunak walked into the No.10. She said she wished Rishi Sunak ‘every success, for the good of the country’ {clip}.

Labour Party politicians have continued to call for a general election. Angela Rayner, the Labour Party deputy leader said that the British public deserve to have the chance to choose their leader {clip}.
